#AppleEvent2k16

September 7, 2016 2:45 pm Published by

On September 7th, 2016 around 12 pm not a single click could be heard around the Turbine Office. The world seemed to be at a standstill as we all turned on our MacBooks and iPads to watch the Apple Event. Would there be a new Apple Watch? iPhone? Maybe a MacBook?

If you want to watch for yourself you can view the event at http://www.apple.com/apple-events/september-2016/ or head on over to our Twitter page https://twitter.com/thisisturbine where we live tweeted the event.

So, what did you miss? Let’s break it down for you:

The Apple Event opened this year with some Carpool Karaoke. We heard some OneRepublic and Pharell even joined for a minute.

Then, we got right into it. First up? The Appstore. Improvements to the interface will make it easier than ever to find the apps you want. Plus coming this fall: MARIO!

After that Apple talked about Education. Their grants are helping many schools across the nation. Apple was excited to announce real-time editing in iWork, everyone was generally unexcited since we’ve had those features with Google Drive since 2010.

Next up was the Apple Watch. The new version is the “Apple Watch Series 2”. Major features are faster processing, waterproof, and that PokemonGo will be available on it. The Series 2 will also come with GPS features and can be purchased with a ceramic casing. Fitness seemed to be the biggest focus with the new series. Apple Watch Series 2 will have a better activity tracker, built in work outs, and will come with breathing exercises to keep you mindful. No improved battery will be the biggest complaint.

To begin the iPhone portion we talked iOS 10. iOS 10 will be available on September 13th. There are a slew of new features, most notable to us was the increase in iMessage effects, previously only available on third party apps.

The main event of course was the iPhone 7 Announcements. According to Apple there are 10 features that really will be selling it. Feature 1: A new finish. iPhone 7 will be available in Black, Jet Black, Silver, Gold, and Rose Gold. Feature 2: Home button, now more responsive, reliable, and customizable. Feature 3: iPhone 7 is now water and dust resistant. Feature 4: Updated Camera. iPhone 7 Plus will feature 2 cameras for better zooming ability. Selfie Camera also improved. Feature 5: Improved Retina HD Display. Instagram is also now working with Apple to more seamlessly blend Boomerang, Live Photos, and Instagram. Feature 6: Stereo Speakers. Double the volume and increased dynamic range. Feature 7: Audio now connecting through the lightning connector. iPhone 7 will ship with lightning headphones as well as an adaptor for your old headphones to connect via lightning port. Feature 8: Wireless Audio. Apple announced the Apple AirPod. Feature 9: Improved Apple Pay. Feature 10: Improved performance. New a10 Fusion is better, faster, takes less battery life. iPhone 7 can be pre-ordered September 9th and will begin shipping September 16th. Memory size starts at 32GB.

Once they finished the iPhone announcements it became clear there would be no MacBook, iPod, or iPad announcements today. We’ll have to wait until the next event to see any improvements in those technologies.

What did you think? Will you be purchasing the new iPhone?
